Teaching

I am an active jazz educator in the Boston Public Schools through Berklee College of Music’s City Music program.  Since 1991, this program, an extension of the President’s Office of Education Outreach has been providing quality musical education and support for underserved urban 6th-12th graders.  By enlisting active faculty from the college as well as hiring additional talented musicians, the program offers private lessons, theory classes, and ensemble classes, both at the college, and through the Faculty Outreach program, at the high schools.  During the school year, I teach private woodwind lessons and coach a Latin jazz big band at the Boston Arts Academy. On Saturdays, I coach an instrumental  jazz ensemble.

I have been nominated to head a committee to unify the City Music Outreach Program’s curriculum, which will then be posted to the program’s PULSE website, which provides both educational materials to students, and supporting materials and forums for Network faculty.  It’s quite a task, but I’m getting very familiar with curriculum in the process.  It’s quite a responsibility to be in charge of guiding the outcomes and expectations of music students all over the country!

In the summer, I am on the saxophone faculty for Berklee’s 5 Week Performance Program, where i teach private lessons and labs in the Woodwind Department, a Theory in Performance class for wind players, and coach ensembles.

Additionally, I am available to teach master classes and private lessons. Please contact me for further information!
