I’m proud to have this collection of recordings be released by Jazz Legacy Productions (JLP). Recorded live between 2011-2013 in the Florida Keys, featuring local musicians Phil Sampson (piano/bass), Skipper Kripitz, Matthew Watson (both drums), and on a couple of tracks, visiting drummer Don Gauck, of Cleveland, OH.
As the musical director for Little Palm Island, a 5-Star resort about 20 miles north of Key West, Phil Sampson has had a lot of great musicians accompany him on the bandstand there. His goal has always been to provide a romantic atmosphere for the guests by playing a carefully chosen selection of standards from the American Songbook, with the occasional more ambitious Jazz tune interspersed. This in-depth exploration of the American Songbook has yielded many a musical moment worthy of preservation. Fortunately, many of those moments were recorded, direct to a CD burner connected to the mixer. Years later, upon culling through the archives, I have found the best of the best, and there are two albums’ worth of material, of which this is the first. You can hear Standards here:
